NeoMusic ("we," "our," or "the app") is developed by Tashila Pathum. It is built privacy-first. We do not run analytics, we do not track you, and we do not operate any server that stores your data. This policy explains the few, strictly optional cases where the app talks to the internet, and what happens to your information in each.
This policy applies to all distributions of NeoMusic, including Google Play and Huawei AppGallery.
1. Data We Collect
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) principle of Data Minimization (Article 5), NeoMusic is designed to function without collecting personal data.
- No Personal Data: We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or IP addresses.
- No Tracking: We do not use cookies, advertising identifiers, or any form of behavioral tracking.
- No Analytics / Crashlytics: We do not use third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs (such as Firebase or Sentry).
- No Accounts: NeoMusic does not require or offer any sign-up or login.
NeoMusic does not collect, process, or transmit any sensitive personal information. The audio files we index, along with their metadata (title, artist, album, artwork), are treated as your private content and remain only on your device — they are never uploaded to us or to any third party.
2. Local Processing
NeoMusic runs primarily on-device. The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us:
- Media Library Index: The app scans your device storage to index and play your music files.
- Preferences & Personalisation: Themes, accent colors, EQ settings, and other options.
- Playlists, Favorites & Listening Stats: Your playlists, favorited tracks, and listening history are stored in a local database on your device.
NeoMusic does not collect any personal information while running in the background or in an unattended state. Background activity is limited to music playback through a foreground media service (MediaSessionService); no data is gathered or transmitted while the app is in the background.
3. Optional Online Features
Some features reach the internet only when you enable or trigger them. They are off or on-demand by default and can be disabled at any time.
- Online Lyrics (LRCLib): When online lyrics are enabled, NeoMusic sends the track title, artist, album, and duration of the currently playing song to LRCLib to look up matching lyrics. No personal identifiers, account data, or device identifiers are sent, and the audio file itself is never uploaded. Fetched lyrics are cached locally. You can disable this feature in Settings.
4. Purchases & Premium
NeoMusic offers an optional one-time premium purchase to unlock extra customization. We do not process or store any payment information ourselves.
- Purchases are handled entirely by the platform's billing provider: Google Play Billing on Google Play, or Huawei In-App Purchases (IAP) on Huawei AppGallery.
- These providers collect and process payment details under their own privacy policies. We only receive a confirmation that a purchase or restore succeeded, which is stored on your device as a local premium flag.
5. Android Permissions
To provide the experience, the app may request the following system permissions:
- READ_MEDIA_AUDIO / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: Required to find and play your music files.
- Write access to media files (on request): When you use the built-in tag editor (to edit metadata or album art) or delete a track, Android shows a system confirmation dialog for that specific file. NeoMusic modifies files only with your explicit action.
- Internet: Used solely for the optional online-lyrics lookup and to complete purchases through the platform billing provider.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to access, rectify, or erase your data. Since NeoMusic does not store any of your data on our servers, these rights are fulfilled by design:
- Right to Erasure: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored preferences, playlists, statistics, and cached lyrics.
- Right to Object: You can revoke media permission at any time via your Android System Settings, and disable online lyrics in-app.
7. Third-Party Services & SDKs
NeoMusic does not use advertising networks or analytics services. No third-party SDK collects personal information without your action. The only third parties involved, and exactly what each receives, are:
- Huawei In-App Purchases (IAP) — Developer: Huawei — Data shared: purchase and order details required to complete a transaction, handled by Huawei — Purpose: to process the optional one-time premium purchase on Huawei AppGallery — Privacy policy: consumer.huawei.com/en/privacy/privacy-policy.
- Google Play Billing — Developer: Google — Data shared: purchase details required to complete a transaction, handled by Google — Purpose: to process the optional one-time premium purchase on Google Play — Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- LRCLib — Provider: the LRCLib community lyrics network API (lrclib.net) — Data shared: only the track title, artist, album, and duration of the currently playing song; no account data or personal identifiers are sent — Purpose: optional online lyrics lookup, active only when you enable it.
Outside of these optional features, your data never leaves your device.
8. Children's Privacy
NeoMusic is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
